JEAN-PAUL LESPAGNARD
FASHION & LACE MUSEUM / REFLECTION
Artistic direction, design concept & scenography / Client : Fashion & Lace Museum of Brussels
I conceived Reflection as an immersive journey into my creative process, where inspirations, transformations, and interactions unfold across space.
My exhibition Reflection by Jean-Paul Lespagnard took place at the Musée Mode & Dentelle. It was conceived as an immersion into my creative process and unfolded across the museum’s three floors through a precise thematic journey.
On the ground floor, titled Inspirations, I presented my mental landscape as a cabinet of curiosities. It brought together everyday objects such as a basketball, a traditional German doll, and a beaded tiger head, alongside contemporary artworks by Gilbert & George, Jan Fabre and Wim Delvoye, among others, as well as historical pieces from the museum’s collections.
On the first and second floors, titled Creations, visitors could see how these heterogeneous references were transformed into garments and collections. The space revealed direct connections between the objects displayed below and the silhouettes presented above. Visitors were invited to make their own connections in order to understand the creative process for themselves.
On the third floor, Interactivity, I invited the public to engage with my work by creating their own scarf digitally, an accessory that plays a central role in my practice.
This exhibition also marked a key moment for the institution, which embraced a renewed direction through this project and adopted its current name, the Musée Mode & Dentelle, moving away from its former identity as the Costume and Lace Museum.
