“My costumes for Omphalos merge ancestral mythologies, futuristic visions, and everyday materials into a living reflection on time and transformation.”

For Omphalos, I conceived and developed the costumes in close collaboration with several workshops in Mexico City.
The creation grew from both the memory of the place and the mythologies evoked by the piece.
Part of the costumes are inspired by pre-Hispanic history through their powerful volumes and ritual presence.
Another part is made from physiotherapy tape, turning the material into a second skin that speaks of tension and regeneration.
The eagles, central figures in the imagery of Omphalos, carry a cosmic dimension that resonates with Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Last chapter costumes were shaped through processes of reuse and recycling, affirming a direct link with everyday materials and their destiny.
These different layers come together in a hybrid visual language, oscillating between archaic and futuristic, mythology and science fiction.
The dancers’ bodies, clothed in these signs, extend Damien Jalet’s reflection on the perception of time, unstable cycles, and the invisible forces that move through our existence.
