JEAN-PAUL LESPAGNARD
MANNEKEN PISS / 1000TH COSTUME
Scenography & costume / Artistic direction, design & production / Client : City of Brussels & Atomium
“For the 1000th costume of the Manneken Pis, I transformed both the character and the monument into a tribute to Brussels’ energy, inspired by the Atomium, its lights, and the nightly fireworks of Expo 58.”

For the 1000th costume of the Manneken Pis, I wanted to create something entirely new. Not just to dress the character, but to dress the monument itself. A symbol and gathering point for the people of Brussels, where every group passing by stops to take a photo. This monument channels the city’s collective energy.
I drew inspiration from the Atomium, its aluminum spheres, its lights, and the memory of the fireworks that lit up every night during Expo 58.
